Another Big Win for Ty, Bobcats
by Devon Jeffreys

Tyson Chandler and the Charlotte Bobcats slayed another potential playoff foe on Tuesday night, taking down the Atlanta Hawks for a 108-100 win.

TC was a catalyst in the post, scoring 12 points on 3-4 from the field and 6-7 from the free throw line. He also added eight boards, including five on the offensive end to keep Charlotte possessions alive.

Tyson entered the game with four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first quarter and the Bobcats leading by 10, 21-11, but No. 6 wasted little time putting his stamp on the game. He pulled down three boards in the closing minutes of the first and scored three points.

Ty broke onto the scoreboard with a 1-2 trip to the free throw line as part of a 9-0 run that pushed the Charlotte lead to 18. Following Tyson's trip to the stripe, teammate Boris Diaw dished out assists on three consecutive baskets, the third going to TC for a dunk to emphatically end the run with the Bobcats ahead 30-12.

No. 6 pitched in five more points while playing most of the second quarter as Charlotte maintained its large lead. His first points came through persistence. After a Tyrus Thomas jumper missed, TC reached up to try and tip it in. When his first attempt wasn't successful he tipped it again to keep it away from Atlanta's Zaza Pachulia, then tipped it a third time off the backboard, finally getting it to fall and making the score 38-22.

The persistent play is featured in the NBA.com game highlights below:

After a short breather in the middle of the quarter, TC returned with 2:54 to go and finished the half strong, scoring the final bucket with 30.3 seconds left in the half off another feed from Diaw as they rolled down the lane together. Tyson was fouled on the play and converted the free throw to reach eight points at the break. He also already had five rebounds as the team's entered the locker room.

Watch TC's slam late in the half below:

The big first half led the Cats to victory, as coach Larry Brown told TSN:

"The first half we played great," said Bobcats head coach Larry Brown. "(Atlanta) doesn't turn the ball over. They had 10 turnovers (in the first half). We got out on the break, shared the ball; we did a lot of great things."

TC added four more points, all from the free throw line, and three more rebounds as the Bobcats finished off their big win.

David Arnott of Rufus on Fire was once again complimentary of No. 6's effort:

"Tyson Chandler had a monster game, scoring 12 points on 4 attempts, with 8 rebounds, all in only 31 minutes."

BACK TO THE BIG EASY
Fresh off their big win over Atlanta, the Bobcats hit the road tonight and Tyson returns to his old stomping grounds when Charlotte takes on the New Orleans Hornets tonight at New Orleans Arena.

Tyson enjoyed the best years of his career from 2006 to 2009 with the Hornets. He averaged a double-double with 10.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game over those three seasons, posting career highs in every statistical category across the board.

During the Hornets run to the Western Conference Semifinals in 2007-2008, Ty enjoyed a breakout season, averaging 11.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. His 322 offensive rebounds led the league for the second straight year and the Hornets came within one win of the Western Conference Finals, dropping game seven of the semis to San Antonio.

After Tyson was traded to Charlotte for Emeka Okafor prior to this season, he reflected fondly on his time in New Orleans in his blog:

From the entry On the Move Again - July 29, 2009:

I felt like we really had an opportunity as a team to grow within that franchise and get better and better. I thought we had the opportunity for a title shot. I'm going to miss playing alongside the guy who I think is the best point guard in the game and has a chance to be one of the greatest of all time, Chris. Then D-West, watching him develop as a player, I'm going to miss that. I felt like playing with David, I was also playing with the best shooter in the game.

Everyone knows how I feel about Coach. I just love and respect him so much and he's helped me turn my career around from where it was heading in Chicago, coming into New Orleans and allowing people to see that talent that I have.

I'm really going to miss all of New Orleans, including the fans. I've grown close to a lot of the fans in my time there and I'll miss that a lot. Especially because of last year, being injured and hurt. Obviously, I tried to play through it, but I wasn't the type of player that I normally am. So it's also tough to leave there without giving the fans that final taste of what I'm capable of doing.

I just want to thank the city of New Orleans, the Hornets organization for the opportunity and for the great couple of years that I had there. I also want to thank my Hornets teammates for everything they've done for me. I had great time in New Orleans being able to enjoy the game again, with them.

Tyson takes on the Hornets at 8 p.m. EST. The game can be seen in Charlotte on Fox Sports Carolinas and in New Orleans on CST.
