On Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, Tyson and the organization Feed the Children are going to No. 6's hometown of Hanford, California, and giving back to the community.
Ty will be helping to distribute food and essentials worth more than $35,000 to more than 400 children and families in need.
According to the official press release:
Tyson Chandler will distribute a semi tractor-trailer full of food items to Golden Harvest Apostolic Church (11914 Second Place). Tyson will attend the 11am food distribution.
Tyson is no stranger to the community, having attended nearby Dominguez Compton High School before going directly into the NBA. "It is so important to me that I am able to give back to my community," Chandler said. "By distributing food we can make an immediate impact in my hometown and I will to continue to help this neighborhood throughout my career in the NBA."
The Salvation Army of Hanford and Golden Harvest Apostolic Church have pre-identified the 400 recipient families and each family will receive over 40 pounds of food and personal care items.
"We are so happy to be able to get the chance to work with Tyson Chandler," said Larry Jones, president and founder of Feed The Children. "To growing boys across the country, Tyson is a role model and what better way to set a great example than by helping hundreds of families. We thank Tyson for his support and for working with us to help change the lives of hundreds of families today."
