Stopped by the Spurs
by Andrew Mees
After rolling through two games in New Orleans where they seemed unstoppable, Ty and the Hornets met a different team in San Antonio, losing to the Spurs, 110-99.
Tyson put it best when he told the Times-Picayune:
"We still understand we're playing against the champs. We're never going to forget that."
Ty had another solid night on both ends of the floor (12 points eight rebounds -- three offensive), going 5-5 from the field and helping to hold Spurs forward Tim Duncan to 16 points. TC and Chris Paul's signature alley-oop off the high pick and roll worked to perfection all night, as No. 6 threw down four in all.
The teams were engaged in a seesaw battle throughout the first half, but the Spurs were able to gain the lead during the third quarter, which had previously been the Hornets' time to pull away.
It's no coincidence that Ty was forced to the bench during the Spurs' big run, having picked up his fourth foul.
Though the Hornets were able to keep Duncan under control for the third straight game, Ty felt the team's defense could have been better overall.
"I felt like defensively, we let it slip away. It's a game we definitely could have won if we'd challenged their shooters. What we have to do is execute defensively. We have to stick to the game plan no matter what is happening out there."
Ty and the Hornets will go back to the drawing board before game four, holding a 2-1 series lead over the defending champs in the Western Conference semifinals.
